Planning Applications/Assessment...
Planning Applications
There are two main forms of planning applications. Full Planning Permission is when all the details of the proposed development are contained in the application, and Outline Planning Permission is used to determine whether an application is acceptable ‘in principle’.
Other specialist applications may be required in certain circumstances, e.g. listed building consent, conservation area consent or advertisement consent. To determine which type of planning application is required and advice re forms, fees, maps etc, it is always best to check with the Planning Department of Argyll & Bute Council.
Assessment
Each local planning authority has a target of two months in which to reach a decision on the application. If an application has not been determined within this time, the applicant can appeal to the Scottish Executive. More complex applications mostly take longer due to consultations with various statutory or community bodies.
In Argyll & Bute, less complex or non controversial applications are likely to be determined by the Chief Planning Officer of Helensburgh and Lomond. More complex applications, or where any letters of objection have been received, will be determined by the Councillors who sit on the Helensburgh and Lomond Area Committee and who are advised by the Argyll & Bute Council Planning Department.
